STRONG EARTHQUAKE JOLTS BALI

A strong earthquake measuring 6.4 on the Richter scale rocked the islands of Bali and West Nusa Tenggara at 7:10 a.m local time on Wednesday morning, but it has no potential to create a tsunami.

Head of Matarams Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency, Agus Riyanto said the earthquake was located at the coordinate of 8.88 degrees southern latitude and -115.24 degrees eastern longitude at a depth of 117 km.

With strong, moderate and weak tremors, the earthquake was felt in a number of regions in the tourist resort province of Bali such as Kuta, Gianyar and Denpasar.

The tremors were also felt in the islands of Lombok and Sumbawa of the NTB province with an intensity scale of III-V modified mercalli intensity. In these areas almost all felt the tremors.

"The tremors of the earthquake were also reportedly felt in Banyuwangi, East Java," Riyanto said.

Seeing the depth of its epicenter, the earthquakes scale is categorically medium. It is triggered by a subduction as a result of the interaction of the Indo-Australia and Eurasia plates.

An earthquake measuring five on the Richter scale is capable of causing considerable damage and one measuring six severe damages.

"Up to this report is filled, there are no immediate reports on aftershocks and damage or losses incurred by earthquake," he said.

The BMKG official called on residents to remain calm and follow the directives of the regional Natural Disaster Mitigation Agencies (BPDB) and the BMKG.

So now let’s move out to the sport news.

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE: REAL MADRID TO FACE BAYERN MUNICH IN QUARTERFINALS

Bayern Munich coach Carlo Ancelotti will return to former club Real Madrid after the two teams were paired in the Champions League quarterfinal draw Friday.

Ancelotti guided Real to its long-awaited 10th European title in 2014, but was sacked a year later. After taking a year-long sabbatical, the Italian took over as coach of German champion Bayern.

Real's La Liga rival Barcelona, which reached the last eight after an astonishing 6-5 aggregate win over Paris Saint-Germain, faces Italy's Juventus in a rematch of the 2015 final.
Leicester City, the only English club remaining in the competition, plays Atletico Madrid -- Spain's third title hopeful -- while Germany's Borussia Dortmund meets French league leader Monaco.

The first-leg ties take place on April 11-12, with the return matches on April 18-19.
In the Europa League, favorite Manchester United was drawn against Belgian side Anderlecht.

The possibility of winning the continent's second-tier competition arguably offers United the best chance of qualifying for next season's Champions League, given Jose Mourinho's side is sixth in the English Premier League table and six points behind fourth-placed Liverpool.

Spain's Celta Vigo faces Genk of Belgium, Dutch club Ajax meets Germany's Schalke, while French club Lyon takes on Besiktas of Turkey.

And now let’s move out to entertainment news.

'BEAUTY AND THE BEAST' NABS US$357 MILLION WORLDWIDE

"Beauty and the Beast," Disney's live action remake of its beloved 1991 animated film, made US$357.1 million at the worldwide box office this weekend.

Of that total, US$174.8 million came at theaters in North America.

The domestic total exceeded what people in the industry had expected, and it broke the record for the biggest box office opening in March. The record had been held by last year's opening of "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice." And it's also the best opening weekend of 2017 so far.

The film, which stars Emma Watson as Belle, is another blockbuster hit for Disney's live action reboots of animated films. The franchise includes 2010's "Alice in Wonderland," 2014's "Maleficent," 2015's "Cinderella," and last year's "The Jungle Book."

"'Beauty and the Beast' is the latest example of Disney's perfectly executed strategy of going to their animation vaults, dusting off a classic and reinventing it as a modern live-action movie," said Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst at comScore.

The film's PG rating, mid-March release, casting, and mix of both new and classic songs helped lead to the film's big opening, Degarabedian said.

The record haul is good news for Disney since the movie had a steep US$160 million production budget.

Other live action remakes in development at Disney: "Dumbo," "The Lion King," "Aladdin," "Mulan" and "Pinocchio."

That’s all for now. See you next time for more update in the afternoon.
